Our members are actively engaged in applied and fundamental research in the field of geotechnics and serve on specialist committees, closely involved in implementing new methods for analysis, assessment and design.

We regularly produce technical papers and state-of-the-art reviews for journals, refereed international conferences, research organisations and clients. We have also developed design methods later incorporated into UK design standards. Notable research projects we have been involved into include:

  • Guide on the Reuse of Foundations (CIRIA C653)
  • The investigation of the potential of the Calcite In Situ Precipitation System (CIPS) as a novel method of ash stabilisation.
  • PISA Project, aimed at improving the design approach for monopile foundations.
  • Alpaca Project, for the design if monopile foundations in chalk
  • Iron Ore and Bauxite shipping Cargo Standards.

Through our Senior Partners and Associates, we maintain strong links with a number of world-class universities (notably with Imperial College, Cambridge, Oxford, City, Dundee, Barcelona, Kobe, Cornell and Berkeley) to enable early implementation of state-of-the-art research and development into engineering practice.
