GCG’s role was to advise on the design of the underwater slopes following catastrophic failures during construction. This required an extensive programme of laboratory testing and characterization of the alluvial materials.
The work was followed by advice on the river protection scheme to the north of the bridge site, where similar conditions and problems were being encountered.
