GCG is proud to recognise the contribution of Senior Partner John Davis and Senior Consultant David Giles, who were both part of the Organising Committee for the 2023 Engineering Group of the Geological Society (EGGS) Annual Conference – chaired by John Davis.
Together with Prof Jim Griffiths and Josh Dunlop, John and David have co-edited the newly published Geological Society Special Publication No. 30 – The Peter Fookes Engineering Geological Legacy in Geomodels, Geomaterials and Geomorphology.
This important volume celebrates the enduring impact of Professor Peter Fookes, whose pioneering work has shaped modern engineering geology and continues to influence research and practice around the world.
You can access the publication online here: https://www.geolsoc.org.uk/bookshop/products/the-peter-fookes-engineering-geological-legacy-in-geomodels-geomaterials-and-geomorphology/
Additionally, two papers (authored by John Davis and David Giles) which were previously published online are now available in hard copy within the book and can be accessed online below:
- John Davis – Desk studies, geological models and avoiding construction disputes – your records will be used against you – https://www.lyellcollection.org/doi/abs/10.1144/egsp30-2025-2
- David Giles – LiDAR for rapid geomorphological assessment in relict periglacial land systems – https://www.lyellcollection.org/doi/abs/10.1144/egsp30-2024-46
A fitting celebration of Professor Fookes’ lifelong influence and a proud moment for all those continuing to build on his legacy.
