GCG Senior Partner, Dr Chris Menkiti, will be presenting at an upcoming technical seminar hosted by the Geotechnical Society of Engineers Ireland, titled “Building Dublin’s Future from the Ground Up – Characterisation of Dublin Soils and Bedrock”, on behalf of Geotechnical Consulting Group (GCG) on 17 February 2026 at Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, Dublin, Ireland.
The seminar will focus on the geotechnical challenges associated with underground construction in Dublin Boulder Clay and the Calp Limestone, a highly topical subject given the number of major underground infrastructure schemes currently planned across the Dublin region.
GCG’s Chris Menkiti will deliver a presentation titled “Some examples and learnings from infrastructure in Dublin Boulder Clay”, drawing on practical project experience and research, and highlighting key lessons for investigation, design and delivery in these complex ground conditions.
The seminar programme brings together leading practitioners from across industry and academia, with confirmed speakers including:
- Marie Fleming (Arup) – Characterisation of the Calp Limestone in Dublin City Centre
- Megan Nugent (WSP) – The geology of Dublin MetroLink: from regional model to localised complexity
- Professor Mike Long (UCD) – Developments in site investigation techniques for Dublin Boulder Clay
- Ronan Travers (Arup) – Stratigraphy variations and sampling effects in Dublin Boulder Clay
- Kevin Flynn (Trinity College Dublin) – Retaining wall behaviour in Dublin Boulder Clay and Calp Limestone: an update
The event will run from 11:00 to 16:30 and will provide an important forum for sharing knowledge and experience on ground characterisation and behaviour in Dublin’s challenging geological environment.
