The project involves building a new Sainsbury’s store, housing and business space on one of Europe’s largest regeneration projects. Sainsbury’s is working with Barratt London to deliver approximately 737 new homes, a replacement 80,000 sq. ft. Sainsbury’s store and 27,000 sq. ft. of local shops, restaurants and office space in Nine Elms, London. The residential aspect aims to develop a series of buildings arranged in seven blocks and above the store including three residential towers of 19, 28 and 37 storeys. The geotechnical elements include construction of over 1000 bearing piles and approximately 540m of basement enclosure wall piles.

The scheme is part of the wider transformation of Nine Elms on the South Bank into Central London’s newest district, located between Chelsea Bridge and Lambeth Bridge. The construction of the proposed development together with the new underground line will have a significant positive impact on the surrounding area. Adjacent to the site is the location of the future London Underground Nine Elms Station on the planned Northern Line Extension (NLE) to Battersea. The design of the foundations for the redevelopment of the Sainsbury’s site had to consider the impact of future construction of the Nine Elms Station and the associated over site development.
